Training Opportunities

We put on a range of statewide and regional courses related to nutrient management on a variety of topics. The schedules for each course are listed below.

The Nutrient Management Planning Course - Registration Open

Two three-day sessions covering the basic concepts of nutrient management on a farm using manure as a fertilizer source. Course cost: $375.

  • The classroom session covers a diverse range of topics in soil fertility, water quality, animal science, agricultural economics and agricultural engineering related to nutrient management (see the course agenda below).
  • Course participants then attend one of two field and calculation sessions. The field and calculation sessions focus on how to make calculations and decisions needed to write a nutrient management plan and discussion of topics raised in the classroom course. The second session includes a visit to the MU Dairy.

This course is recommended by Missouri NRCS for TSP's writing CNMP's.
- This course has been approved for 29.0 Wastewater Operator CEU's and 35.5 CAFO Operator CEU's.

- For Certified Crop Advisors we have applied for 6.0 Soil and Water CEU's and 23.5 Nutrient Management CEU's.

This course will be held at The Missouri Cattlemen's Association Building, 2306 Bluff Creek Dr., Columbia, MO.

Advanced Nutrient Management Planning Course - Registration Full

Topic:  Nitrogen Management in Forage and Row Crops

This session will provide detailed presentations and discussions on how to optimize nitrogen management particularly on farms using manure as a nitrogen source.  There are no pre-requisites for this course.  See the agenda for more details on speakers and topics.

Cost:  $185, includes two lunches.

   for Certified Crop Advisors.
- The course has been approved for 12.0 CEUs for CAFO Operators and 12.0 CEUs for Wastewater Operators.

Computer-Assisted Nutrient Management Planning Course

A two day course on how to use SNMP, MMP and other computer resources to write a nutrient management plan. Registration is limited to 11 persons per session.

No courses are currently scheduled but we anticipate a new round of courses this winter.
