Soil Temperatures Reach Optimum Levels for Fall Nitrogen
Application in Mid November in Northern Missouri.
Fall anhydrous ammonia and other sources of ammonium nitrogen (e.g.
liquid manure) applications for corn are likely to lead to overwinter
losses unless they are delayed until average soil temperatures drop
below 40oF. Soil temperatures in Novelty MO reached
that level in the middle of November, two weeks ahead of normal.
